Hatch Rest+ vs. Yogasleep Hushh

The Hatch Rest+ and Yogasleep Hushh are both solid sound machines, but they are built for different situations. Putting them head-to-head as direct competitors misses the point — one is a home base, the other is a travel tool.

The Hatch Rest+ (~$75) lives on the nightstand or dresser. It connects to your WiFi, runs from a wall outlet, and gives you app control over sound, volume, and light from anywhere in the house. Over time, you can use its toddler clock feature to help your child understand when it's OK to wake up and come find you. It's a multi-year investment in a single nursery device.

The Yogasleep Hushh (~$28) clips to a stroller, diaper bag, or car seat and runs on a rechargeable battery. It has three sounds and a child lock. That's it — and that simplicity is the whole point. You charge it, you clip it, you press a button, and white noise happens wherever you are.

Neither machine is objectively better. The question is which problem you're trying to solve — or whether you need both.

This is one of the most meaningful practical differences between the two machines.

The Hatch Rest+ gives you access to a substantial sound library through the app — white noise, brown noise, pink noise, fan sounds, ocean waves, rain, heartbeat, lullabies, and more. You can find what your baby responds to and save it as a routine. If your child moves through phases (white noise as a newborn, rain sounds at 8 months, fan at 18 months), the Rest+ accommodates that without you buying anything new.

The Yogasleep Hushh has three sounds: bright white noise, deep white noise, and gentle surf. That's it. For most babies, that's enough — white noise is white noise, and the two variants (bright and deep) let you pick between a higher-pitched and a lower-pitched version. Gentle surf adds a soft rhythmic quality some babies find soothing. But if your baby needs something specific — brown noise, a heartbeat sound, lullabies — the Hushh won't deliver it.

For travel use, three sounds is rarely a limitation. At home over multiple years, the Rest+'s broader library genuinely earns its value.

The Hatch Rest+ requires WiFi setup and the Hatch app. Once configured, you can turn the machine on or off, adjust volume, change sounds, set schedules, and control the nightlight — all from your phone, from anywhere in the house.

In practice, this matters most at night. Parents who have used both app-controlled and physical-button machines consistently report that being able to turn off the sound after a baby falls asleep — without opening the door and risking waking them — is worth the setup cost alone. The same goes for adjusting volume during a nap without going into the room.

The Hushh has no app at all. Physical buttons, physical child lock, done. If you find app-dependent devices annoying (WiFi setup, firmware updates, subscription prompts), the Hushh's straightforwardness is a genuine virtue.

The Rest+ also requires an optional subscription (~$5/month or ~$40/year) for full access to its sound library and sleep content. The free tier is functional but limited. Over three years, that subscription adds roughly $120 to the total cost of ownership — something worth factoring into the price comparison.

The Yogasleep Hushh was designed to go wherever your baby goes. At roughly 3 ounces and palm-sized, it clips to a stroller canopy, a car seat strap, the handle of a bassinet, or the outside of a diaper bag. The rechargeable battery runs 2–8 hours depending on volume — sufficient for nearly any nap scenario and many travel situations.

This matters in the following situations:

• Stroller naps: Your baby falls asleep to white noise at home. The Hushh recreates that cue on a walk.
• Hotel stays: You do not need to bring a wall-plug machine or find an outlet near the crib.
• Daycare drop-off: Some daycare providers will allow a small clip-on machine near the nap mat. A wall-plug machine is typically not an option.
• Car rides: Clipped to the car seat or the back of the headrest, it provides the same background noise your baby hears at home.
• Visiting family: Overnight stays in unfamiliar environments disrupt baby sleep. The Hushh brings a familiar sound cue without requiring setup.

The Hatch Rest+ does none of this. It is a wall-plug device. If you leave the house, it stays behind.

The Rest+ includes a fully customizable LED nightlight controlled through the app. You can set it to any color at any brightness — soft amber for nighttime feeds, bright white for diaper changes, off during deep sleep. This replaces a separate nightlight entirely.

More importantly, the color-change toddler clock feature extends the Rest+'s useful lifespan well past infancy. You set a wake time in the app, and the light changes color (typically green) when it's OK for your child to get out of bed. For children between ages 2 and 5, this feature alone saves many early morning wake-ups. Many parents report it working reliably as young as 18–24 months.

The Yogasleep Hushh has no light at all. For purely portable use, that's fine — a nightlight on a clip-on stroller machine would be odd. But if you're deciding between the two for nursery use, the light and clock features are meaningful, especially if you have or expect to have a toddler.

The Hushh costs about $28. The Rest+ costs about $75. That's a $47 gap before you factor in the Hatch+ subscription.

If you use the full Rest+ subscription for three years, your total cost is approximately $75 (hardware) + $120 (three years of subscription) = ~$195. The Hushh's three-year cost is $28, full stop.

That said, this comparison only holds if you actually need the subscription features. The Rest+ hardware works for basic sound and light without a subscription. And if the toddler clock feature saves you six months of 5 AM wake-ups, the math changes entirely.

The Hushh's price point also makes it easy to buy one for home use and a second for a partner's car or the grandparents' house. At $28, the bar is low.

Many families do — and it makes sense. The Rest+ stays in the nursery as the primary home machine. The Hushh goes in the diaper bag for everything else. Using the same white noise cue (or a close approximation of it) in both environments helps maintain the sleep association regardless of where the nap happens.

If you are deciding between the two and can only buy one: buy the Hushh if you travel frequently or need portable white noise more than nursery features. Buy the Rest+ if you want a full-featured nursery setup with app control and a toddler clock, and you mostly need sleep help at home.

If you are outfitting a nursery from scratch and budget allows, buying the Rest+ for home and the Hushh for travel (~$100 total) covers both scenarios without compromise.
